On Thursday, 21st November, a discussion session titled “The Impact of Climate Change on the Lives and Livelihoods of Forest-Dependent and Sea-Going Fisherfolk” was organized by Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA) and Waterkeepers Bangladesh at Fakirhat Bazaar in Taltali Upazila, Barguna.
Speakers at the event highlighted critical issues, including the silting of Taltali’s canals, which disrupts agricultural production, the urgent need for signal lights to aid sea-going fishermen, and the decline in fish populations in the Payra and Bishkhali rivers caused by the thermal power plant’s impact.
The Chief Guest of the session was Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Beat Officer of the Sakhina Forest Beat in Taltali Upazila. Md. Ikbal Faruk, Manager of Research and Implementation at Waterkeepers Bangladesh, along with representatives from Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA), also participated in the discussion.
Over two hundred forest-dependent people, fishermen, and farmers attended the session, sharing their concerns and calling for urgent solutions to the challenges they face.
