On Sept 2, 2025, an awareness program titled “Greening the School Premises” was held at Kalauk School in Lakhai Upazila of Hobiganj. The program was jointly organized by Khowai River Waterkeepers, Dhoritri Rokhhai Amra (DHORA) and Haor Rokhhay Amra. The program was facilitated by the executive member of DHORA-Hobiganj Md. Bahar Uddin and chaired by the Convener of DHORA-Hobiganj Tahmina Begum Gini. The program was attended by the Upazila Nirbahi (Executive) Officer of Lakhai, Anupam Das Anup as the Chief Guest. The program was attended by Upazila Agricultural Officer agriculturist Shahadul Islam, founding president of Hobiganj Press Club advocate Monsur Uddin Ahamed Iqbal, and Head Teacher of Kalauk High School Abdul Motaleb. Among others Khowai River Waterkeeper Tofazzal Sohel, environmental activist Md. Raihan, Mohiuddin Ahamed Ripon and Saiful Islam spoke on the occasion.
The chief guest, the Upazila Executive Officer of Lakhai Upazila, said in his speech that there has been a noticeable change in our weather due to climate change. When there is supposed to be water in the haor, there is no water there. The temperature is increasing. In this critical situation we have to work to ensure a beautiful environment for future generations. Advocate Monsur Uddin Ahmed Iqbal said, trees not only enhance the beauty of the environment, but they also protect us from soil erosion, floods and natural disasters. Trees should be planted to keep the environment and school premises beautiful. In her speech of the Chair, Tahmina Begum Gini stressed the importance of trees and said, plantation and protection of trees is essential for healthy society. We have taken such awareness program to encourage the community people in plantation.
The speakers at the event said, "Trees should be planted to maintain ecological balance. We need to understand the importance of tree plantation and focus on tree conservation. Students can play an important role in tree plantation. Therefore, we need to motivate students."
