From October 21-25, 2024, the United Nations Committee on Food Security (CFS) held its 20th Anniversary Plenary Session on the Right to Food Guidelines in Rome. Concurrently, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings took place in Washington, DC, from October 21-26. In line with World Food Day observances this October, Bangladesh participated in global discussions on food and climate on October 21 as part of the Asia Day of Action, organized by Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA) in collaboration with the Asian People’s Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD), Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and local organizations.
Food and climate action events were held across eight locations in four coastal districts of Bangladesh: Pekua, Kutubdia, and Maheshkhali upazilas in Cox's Bazar District; Patharghata, Barguna Sadar, and Taltoli upazilas in Barguna District; Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali District; and Mongla upazila in Bagerhat District. This initiative spotlighted the responsibility of developed nations in degrading food systems, land, water, and climate, and advocated for compensation and a shift towards sustainable food systems.
