Book Launching and Discussion: “An Analysis of the Legislative Landscape and Court Orders on Air, Noise, and Water Pollution’’

Hundred of lawyers and civil society representatives attended a book launching and discussion event organized by Waterkeepers Bangladesh (WKB) Consortium on 1 November 2022. The speakers in the event appreciated the book publication and urged the government and departments concerned to put emphasis on the implementation of environmental laws and court orders.
WKB Consortium organized the event titled - Book Launching and Discussion: “An Analysis of the Legislative Landscape and Court Orders on Air, Noise, and Water Pollution’’ at Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium, Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association, Shahbag, Dhaka. This book has incorporated findings from two different studies i.e. “Analyzing the legislative landscape on air, noise and water pollution”, where law and policy loopholes have been identified, and “Review and analysis of court orders on the river, air and noise pollution”, where important court orders were analyzed. Mohammad Golam Sarwar, Assistant Professor of Law, University of Dhaka and Dr. Syeda Nasrin, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh conducted the studies under the project. Mohammad Golam Sarwar analyzed the legislative landscape and implementation gaps, while Advocate Dr. Syeda Nasrin analyzed court orders for the book.
Mr. A M Amin Uddin, honorable Attorney General of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest in the book launcing and discussion event presided over by Sharif Jamil, Lead, Waterkeepers Bangladesh Consortium. Professor Dr. Shima Zaman, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka attended the event as special guest. Mr. Raymund Johansen, Deputy Director, Office of Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance, USAID/Bangladesh; Mr. Mainuddin Ahamed, Chief of Party, PAR, Counterpart International; Md. Abdun Nur Dulal, General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association; and Advocate Shah Monzurul Hoque attended the event and discussed on the book published by WKB Consortium. Professor Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, Chairman & Professor, Department of Environmental Science, Stamford University Bangladesh delivered welcome speech in the event.
