The demand to stop financing gas is a critical part of the larger conversation surrounding climate finance and the energy transition at COP30. At COP30 on November 14, 2025, the “Stop Financing Gas” event spotlighted urgent calls to end public and private funding for gas infrastructure, with civil society leaders demanding an immediate just transition away from fossil fuels. Sharif Jamil, Coordinator, Waterkeepers Bangladesh present at COP30 and issued strong statements opposing fossil fuel finance, including gas, and promoting grant-based climate finance for Bangladesh’s just energy transition.
