A vibrant debate competition centered on the theme “Fossil fuels are not the solution; only renewable energy can combat climate change” was held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the auditorium of Mongla Government College. The event was jointly organized by Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA), Mongla Government College, Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and Pashur River Waterkeeper.
The program was chaired by Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, President of Pashur River Waterkeeper. Professor K.M. Rabbani, Principal of Mongla Government College, attended as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Asit Basu, General Secretary of the college's Teachers’ Association, was present as a Special Guest. The event was conducted by Lecturers S.M. Mahbubur Rahman and Sahara Begum.
The judging panel included Lecturers Shyama Prasad Sen, Manoj Kanti Biswas, Md. Arifuzzaman, Momtaz Khanam, and Rupa Das.
Students from the 11th grade, representing both the Humanities and Science streams, took part in the debate. The team from the 11th grade Science stream was declared the winner, with Athoi Mistry receiving the Best Speaker award for her exceptional performance. Fellow Science stream students, including Sadiya, also actively contributed to the debate.
At the end of the program, environment- and climate-themed books were awarded to the winners by the Chief Guest and other distinguished attendees, marking a meaningful conclusion to a thought-provoking and inspiring event.
