On August 30, 2025, the 3rd Manifesto Talk on “Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy and Just Transition” was jointly organized by Waterkeepers Bangladesh, MENTOR, Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association, University of Dhaka, Centre for Atmospheric Pollution Studies, Centre for Participatory Research and Development, BRAC University, Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research, Shocheton Foundation, Brighters, Climate Frontier, Environmental Shapers Network, OAB Foundation, Youth Environment and Development Organization, and Young Climate Action Network at the auditorium of the Nabab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University. Among others, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's advisor Mahdi Amin, Chairman of National Democratic Movement Bobby Hajjaj, Joint Convenor of National Citizens Party Javed Rasin, General Secretary of Amar Bangladesh Party Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad, Director of Centre for Renewable Energy Services Limited Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Research Director of Centre for Policy Dialogue Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Assistant Professor of Sher e Bangla Agricultural University Mir Mohammad Ali, Chairman of Center for Atmospheric Pollution and Studies Professor Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder spoke at the event.
The coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh Sharif Jamil said, “Due to the reckless expansion of Coal and LNG based electricity plants and projects in Bangladesh, irreparable damages to the Sundarbans, Hilsha fish population and Salt production are now evident. We must stop this dirty industrialization across the coast of Bangladesh unless we ensure a transparent, inclusive and science-based Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for the entire southern part of the country.”
The advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare of the interim government of Bangladesh, Ms. Sharmeen S. Murshid, in her closing remarks as the Chief Guest said, “To reduce the use of fossil fuels, we need to introduce modern technologies, and the youth leadership can free the world from this crisis.”
