Market Forces, Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA), and Waterkeepers Bangladesh (WKB) protested against Japanese banks advocating for a false "transition" in Asia that relies on imported fossil fuels, which are often too expensive. A demonstration was held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in Shyamoli, Dhaka. Leaders of DHORA and Waterkeepers participated in the protest, carrying banners, festoons, and placards, to oppose the Japanese banks' promotion of imported fossil fuels.
MS Siddiqui, Co-convener of DHORA; Sharif Jamil, Member Secretary of DHORA and Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh; Noor Alam Sheikh, Coordinator of Sundarban Rakhhya Amra; Sanjida Rahman, Coordinator of Chunati Rakhhay Amra; Md. Ashikur Rahman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Patuakhali Science and Technology University; grassroots environmental activist from Barguna, Shafiqul Islam Khokon; and others attended the demonstration.
