On October 8, 2024, a daylong program was organized by Waterkeepers Bangladesh at Gorakghata High School in Maheshkhali Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The event featured a variety of activities, including a student art competition, a debate competition, a cultural program, and a courtyard meeting.
The Chief Guest was MD Ikbal Faruk, Manager of Research and Implementation at Waterkeepers Bangladesh. Other notable attendees included Mamun Kabir, Manager of Communications and Advocacy at Waterkeepers Bangladesh, Headmaster Sristi Ram De, Assistant Headmaster Abdur Rahim, and ANM Hasan, General Secretary of the Maheshkhali Upazila Press Club.
A debate took place highlighting the role of renewable energy in combating climate change, in contrast to the use of fossil fuels.The program was presided over by JHM Yunus, Coordinator of Maheshkhali Upazila for Waterkeepers Bangladesh and Dhoritri Rokhhay Amra (DHORA) Maheshkhali, and moderated by young journalist Sheikh Abdullah.The event saw active participation from schoolteachers, local dignitaries, and students.
The program concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where students were awarded for their achievements.
