Waterkeepers Bangladesh is dedicated to safeguarding the country’s water bodies and forest resources through enforcement, fieldwork, and community-driven initiatives. Our mission is to ensure water quality protection by integrating social movements, advocacy, and legal measures. Through interconnected efforts in litigation, awareness campaigns, and grassroots mobilization, we strive to create a sustainable future where clean water is accessible to all.
As a regional entity of Waterkeeper Alliance, Waterkeepers Bangladesh is part of a global network of over 300 Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates working on the frontlines of the water crisis. This movement protects over 2.5 million square miles of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways across six continents. Together, we champion the vision of swimmable, drinkable, and fishable waterways worldwide.
Currently, Waterkeepers Bangladesh is actively engaged in protecting the country’s rivers through dedicated initiatives, including Buriganga Riverkeeper, Surma River Waterkeeper, Khowai River Waterkeeper, Pashur River Waterkeeper, and Voice of the Old Brahmaputra River, a Waterkeepers Bangladesh Affiliate. These programs focus on restoring water ecosystems, addressing pollution, and advocating for stronger environmental policies.
Waterkeepers Bangladesh administered by the Blue Planet Initiative (BPI), a non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to environmental justice. By empowering local communities, fostering policy change, and utilizing legal frameworks, we aim to defend Bangladesh’s natural water resources for future generations. Our work is a call to action—ensuring that rivers, wetlands, and forests are protected, resilient, and thriving in the face of environmental challenges.
