Waterkeepers Bangladesh has been working to protect the water and water bodies of Bangladesh including its forest resources through enforcement, fieldwork, and community action. We work to achieve this goal through social movement, advocacy, and legal measures that ensure water quality protection. Our litigation, advocacy, and community teams conduct interconnected activities that serve this mission.
Waterkeepers Bangladesh is a regional entity of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Waterkeeper Alliance unites more than 300 Waterkeeper Organizations and Affiliates that are on the frontlines of the global water crisis; patrolling and protecting more than 2.5 million square miles of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways on six continents. Our movement works for swimmable, drinkable, and fishable waterways worldwide.
At present Waterkeepers Bangladesh is conducting operations in Bangladesh to protect its rivers through Buriganga Riverkeeper, Surma River Waterkeeper, Khowai River Waterkeeper, Pashur River Waterkeeper, and Voice of the Old Brahmaputra River, a Waterkeepers Bangladesh Affiliate.
Waterkeepers Bangladesh is administered by Blue Planet Initiative (BPI), a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization.
