Waterkeepers Bangladesh organized a two-day (29–31 January 2026) strategic workshop focused on country-level activities, held in the Sundarbans in southern Bangladesh. The workshop took place aboard a river cruise ship and was attended by the Waterkeepers Bangladesh team along with representatives from partner organizations across the country. A total of 55 participants attended the event. Among the participants present, a significant number were representatives of the youth and young community. The workshop centered on nature conservation issues, reviewed the organization’s past activities, and developed an action plan for the coming year. The entire event was coordinated by Waterkeepers Bangladesh Coordinator Sharif Jamil, with various sessions facilitated by regional representatives. Participants noted that Bangladesh has a large number of rivers, many of which are encroached upon by influential individuals and severely polluted. Most pollution stems from unplanned urbanization and industrial waste dumping.
Waterkeepers Bangladesh, in collaboration with the citizens platform Dhoritry Rokhhay Amra (DHORA), committed to taking necessary measures to recover and protect these rivers. Youth have a significant role to play in this work. The meeting also resolved to strengthen advocacy efforts for river protection. During various sessions of the event, participants had the opportunity to visit several iconic locations within the Sundarbans – such as Hiron Point, Kotka, Dublar Char, and Tiger Point – and experience the breathtaking natural beauty of the region.
