On 26 January 2026, to observe the International Clean Energy Day 2026, Waterkeepers Bangladesh joined a human chain in front of the National Parliament Building, Agargaon, Dhaka, alongside Transparency International Bangladesh and other organizations. The human chain was organized under the powerful slogan ‘Clean Energy, Fair Future: The Time for Policy Decisions is Now,’ emphasizing both sustainability and justice while urging immediate action in policymaking. The Waterkeepers Bangladesh team led by Syed Taposh, Head of Communications & Advocacy, included Sayeed Hossain, Shahriar Shawon, Sadman Arefin Anik and others, stood united for people-centered energy policies.
In his speech, Syed Taposh emphasized that government master plans like IEPMP and EPSMP have long prioritized coal, fossil fuels, and now imported gas – while renewable energy remains sidelined. Currently, renewables make up only 5% of Bangladesh’s energy mix, with a target of just 15% by 2030. He called for future political leaders to design mega plans that serve the people of Bangladesh – not foreign interests. The demand is clear: renewable energy must be at the heart of our national agenda.
