On Monday, July 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, a month-long tree plantation program was inaugurated in the Londa Ferry Ghat area of Tiyakhali Union, Kalapara Upazila, jointly organized by DHORA, Waterkeepers Bangladesh, Amra Kalaparabashi, and Environment Protection Movement, Kalapara. With the slogan “Let’s plant trees to build a greener Bangladesh,” the initiative aims to create a coastal green belt to safeguard the region.
The program was officially inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kalapara, Mr. Yasin Sadik. Notable attendees included: Regional Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh Mezbah Uddin Mannu, President of Amra Kalaparabashi Nazmus Sakib, Member of Environment Protection Movement- Kalapara Nazrul Islam, Youth Organizer Gazi Md. Niaz Morshed, Union Parishad Member Md. Masum Billah, and Environmental Activist Kamal Hasan Roni.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Yasin Sadik emphasized, “Tree plantation in coastal regions is an extremely effective step to combat the impacts of climate change.” Other speakers echoed the importance of increasing environment-friendly initiatives such as tree planting to protect coastal communities from climate threats. Various species of forest, fruit-bearing, and medicinal saplings were planted during the event. Organizers stated that this initiative will continue throughout the month of July across different areas of Kalapara.
