As part of a month-long tree planting and sapling distribution initiative organized by DHORA and Waterkeepers Bangladesh, a tree planting event was held at the Pekua Police Compound on Friday, July 25 at 11:30 AM. At the event, Officer-in-Charge of Pekua Thana Mohammad Sirajul Mostafa emphasized that there is no alternative to social forestry for protecting the planet. He added that the monsoon season is ideal for planting trees, urging people from all walks of life to actively engage in tree planting alongside the government.
The program was conducted by DHORA’s Pekua Upazila Coordinator Delwar Hossain. Among the speakers were Master Abul Hashem, Head Teacher of Pekua Girls’ High School; M Abdullah Ansari, General Secretary of Pekua Press Club; M Azam Uddin, Joint Convener of Salt Fisheries and Agricultural Welfare Association; Badiul Alam, Joint Secretary of Rajakhali Union Branch; and Mizbah Uddin, Rover Scouts Group Leader. Members of Coastal Mukto Rover Scouts Group and students from various educational institutions also participated. Guests planted fruit and timber saplings in the police compound. Afterwards, saplings were distributed among the students.
