On 16th June, a roundtable meeting was held with the theme of ‘Save Pashur River, Save the Sundarbans’ at the auditorium of Joymoni Secondary School in Mongla. Pashur River Waterkeeper and Waterkeepers Bangladesh jointly organized the meeting. The main participants were Co-management Committee of Sundarbans’ Chadpai Range, Tiger Team, CPG and Pashur River Waterkeeper Volunteers.
On that Friday afternoon, the roundtable meeting was presided over by Pashur River Waterkeeper and Former Upazila Vice Chairman, Journalist Md. Noor Alam Sheikh.
Sundarbans’ Chadpai Range’s Assistant Forest Conservator Md. Mehedi Jaman spoke as the chief guest in the meeting. Social Worker and Vice President of the Sundarbans’ Co-management Committee Gazi Jahurul Islam, Sundarbans’ Chadpai Station’s Station Officer Md. Nuruzzaman, Joymoni Naval Police Camp Incharge Md. Monir Hossain, freedom fighter Khaleque Hawladar and UP Member Oliyar Rahman spoke as special guests in the meeting. Besides, Mawlana Saiful Islam, Abdul Malek Hawladar of Tiger Team, Shahidul Molla of CPG, Tanjim Hossain Mukul of BAPA, Pashur River Waterkeeper’s Volunteer Shaon Hawladar also spoke in the meeting.
In the roundtable meeting, the speakers urged to stop human torture on the Sundarbans and the Pashur River. Speakers demanded for protection of the Pashur River and the Sundarbans from pollution and erosion. The speakers also demanded to stop environmental unrestricted industrialization in the Sundarbans’ buffer zone.
