On June 5th 2017, to celebrate World Environment Day, Pashur River Waterkeeper jointly organized a human chain program in front of Mongla Government College with Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), Waterkeepers Bangladesh and Service Bangladesh with the slogan, ‘Save Pashur River, Save the Sundarbans’.
Pashur River Waterkeeper, Md. Noor Alam Sk presided over the meeting during the human chain around 11 AM on that Monday morning. Md. Golam Sarwar, Principal of Mongla Government College, spoke as the chief guest at the human chain. Local Awami League Party Chairman Kamruzzaman Jasim was the main speaker.
Professor Anand Mohon Biswas, Lecturer Shamprasad Sen, Dr. Aushit Basu, Lecturer Kuber Chandra Mandal, Lecturer Manoj Kanti Biswas, Mostafizur Rahman Milon & Afroza Hira from Service Bangladesh, Tanjim Hossain Mukul & Nazmul Haque Pramukh from BAPA also spoke at the human chain. The speakers spoke on the importance of Pashur River and the Sundarbans. The speakers urged the government to take necessary steps to protect the Pashur River and the Sundarbans.
A roundtable meeting was held at 4:30 PM on the same day. The meeting was presided over by Pashur River Waterkeeper Md. Noor Alam Sk. Md. Golam Sarwar, Principal of Mongla Government College, spoke as the chief guest at the meeting as well. Professor Gazi Taiyabur Rahman and Journalist Kamruzzaman Jasim were the special guests in the meeting. Municipal Councilor Md. Yunusur Rahman, Director of Caltan Artist Group James Sharat Karmakar, President of Creative Literature Council Shaymol Kumar Hawladar, Swades Bandhu Das of the Sundarbans Theatre, Kamal Ahmed of Karitas, Lecturer Shamprasad Sen, Lecturer Manoj Kanti Biswas, Lecturer Mamtaz Khanom, Lecturer Aparna Adhikary, Lecturer Sahara Begum, Lecturer Nigar Sultana Sumi, Mostafizur Rahman Milon from Service Bangladesh, Nazmul Haque & Tanjim Hossain Mukul from BAPA were also present in the meeting. People of more than two hundred different profession participated in the meeting to celebrate World Environment Day.
