Surma River Waterkeeper and other environmental organizations have initiated an awareness program to protect River Surma from any kind of pollution. As a part of this program, the organizers will distribute leaflets among the city dwellers. The leaflet will deliver the encouraging messages to protect River Surma and other canals/channels connected to it from pollution. It will also deliver the messages towards the industrial factory owners on the river bank, so that they do not release any factory waste into river. The organizers have initiated this program as a part of week long program to observe the ‘’International Day of Action for Rivers’’ on March 14. The organizers arranged an inauguration ceremony at Subid bazar as day 2 activities on March 13, 2016. Dr. Sadaruddin Chowdhury, the President of BAPA, Sylhet Chapter unveiled the leaflet in the inauguration ceremony as the Chief Guest. Surma River Waterkeeper, Abdul Karim Kim; the Chief Executive, UKBET, Asaduzzaman Sayem; Doha Chowdhury of Bhumisantan Bangladesh and President, Green Explore Society, Archishman Dutta was present on the occasion. Addressing the program Dr. Sadaruddin said, Surma River is our identity, we have to save it.
