On 31 December 2023 at 11:00 AM in front of Sheikh Jamal Government Secondary School on the bank of Buriganga River in Kamrangirchar of the capital, Waterkeepers Bangladesh and Buriganga Nadi Morcha jointly conducted a campaign program titled “We want the commitment of candidates in the parliamentary elections to prevent environmental pollution“. Nirapad Development Foundation, Socheton Nagorik Samaj Songothon, Sundarbans and Coast Protection Movement, Nirapod Chikitsha Chai, Banalata Nari Unnayan Sanstha, and Shishuder Muktobayu Seban Sanstha have collaborated in organizing the program. The program included assembly, rally, mime show, and motivational meetings with boatmen and voters of the riverbank. Through the campaign, it was strongly demanded to include “prevention of water, air and noise pollution” as one of the commitments of the candidates in the parliamentary elections and to convey the message that “healthy Bangladesh can be built only by preventing environmental pollution” to the people.
Project Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh Syed Taposh moderated the program. Coordinator of Sundarbans and Coastal Protection Movement Nikhil Chandra Bhadra, Chairman and CEO of Nirapad Development Foundation Ibnul Syed Rana, Sports and Cultural Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists Shakila Parveen, Executive Director of Socheton Nagorik Somaj Songothon SM Jahangir Adel, General Secretary of Nirapod Chikitsha Chai Umme Salma, Member of Barogram Unnayan Sangho Jannati Akter Ruma were also present in the program. Hundreds of local people including boatmen participated in the event.
