Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Surma River Waterkeeper jointly organized citizen chain at Sylhet to observe the World Sundarbans Day
The World Sundarbans Day was observed on February 14, 2016 at Sylhet. Bangladesh PoribeshAndolon (BAPA), Sylhet and Surma River Waterkeeper jointly organized a citizen chain to observe the day. The citizen chain was held at the Central Shaheed Minar at 4 pm. The environmental organizations, professional groups and people from different sectors joined the meeting and expressed their solidarity to the initiatives for protecting the Sundarbans. During the citizen chain, a public meeting was held chaired by Emadullah Sahidul Islam Shaheen, Vice President, BAPA, Sylhet. Assistant Professor, Geography and Environmental Science, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Mohammad Anwarul Islam; Coordinator, Bhumisantan Bangladesh, Ashraful Kabir; and President, Sari Bachao Andolon, Abdul Hi Al Hadi spoke on the occasion. Tayef Ahmed Chowdhury from Surma River Waterkeeper recited National Committee’s ‘‘Appeal of civic society to the Government and the United Nations for protecting the Sundarbans’’ at the beginning of the meeting.
