WKB consortium organized sixth community meeting on 12 March 2022 to increase awareness and organize community members to advocate to reduce water, air, and noise pollution in Dhaka city. This was a two-hour-long event (4:00 pm – 6:00 pm) organized at Uttara Govt Primary School, Moricharteck, Aminbazar by the riverside of Turag.
More than 200 people attended the community meeting.
The community meeting was organized jointly by local organizations of Turag Riverbank and Waterkeepers Bangladesh Consortium. Mohammad Azaz, Chairman of River and Delta Research Centre chaired and moderated the meeting. The meeting was addressed by Sharif Jamil, Coordinator, Waterkeepers Bangladesh as the main speaker. Md. Rakib Ahmed, Chairman of Amin Bajar Union Parishad was the chief guest While Saiful Alam Khan, UP Chairman Kaundia, and Selim Mondol, Chairman of Birulia UP were the special guests. Among the leaders of community organizations, Basiruddin (Bangladesh Nadi Bachao Andolan), Salahuddin Khan Naeem (Savar Citizens Committee), Md. Ziaur Rahman, President (Amin Bazar Club), and others talked about their role in the prevention of encroachment and pollution in River Turag.
At the end of the meeting, the Turag River coalition was declared by making Saiful Alam Khan (chairman of Kaundia) as advisor, Rakib Ahmed(chairman of Aminbazar Union Parishad) as president, Selim Mandal(chairman of Birulia Union Parishad) as vice-president and Md. Ziaur Rahman as general secretary.
