Discussions with the locals of Shelabunia, Buridangha union held on 11th December 2016 in the evening. Noor Alam Shekh, Pashur River Waterkeeper, Sharif Jamil, Buriganga Riverkeeper and Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh, Abdul Karim Kim, Surma River Waterkeeper and Sujon Rai, Chairman Youth Organization Biddarbahon Anirban suddenly visited the village right beside the proposed Orion Power Plant. In a crowd of 40-50 villagers, Sharif Jamil explained the necessity for them to stand against the reckless development in around their villages.
Through and interactive discussion, it came from the villagers to hold a public meeting on the next day in front of their club in the village
Demanding protection from Pashur River and Biddar Khal erosion a meeting and rally took place just after the next day on 12th December 2016, at Biddarbahon Club. The meeting was held at evening after finishing the rally, which was chaired by Noor Alam Shekh. The Chief Guest Sharif Jamil, Buriganga Riverkeeper, and Coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh said that in our country valuable local opinion is not taken before initiating any big project, hence later the locals suffer when the project starts. On behalf of the locals, Welcome Speech was given by Sujon Rai, Chairman Youth Organization Biddarbahon Anirban. Sharif Jamil requested the government to protect the locals from the erosion of Biddarbahon and Shelabunia village. He also added that unauthorized industrialization in Mongla should be monitored by Government.
