Khowai River Waterkeeper: To observe the ‘International Day of Action for Rivers’, Khowai River Waterkeeper, and Waterkeepers Bangladesh organized a day long art competition on 10th March, 2017. The event named ‘Let’s draw rivers with colors’ held at 10 am in the morning, at the premises of Habiganj Cultural Council where the child drew pictures on the various subjects related to river and people. It is to be mentioned that Khowai River Waterkeeper in Sylhet has initiated a week long program to observe the International Day of Action for Rivers. Around hundred students from play group to tenth grade participated in the art competition from various institutions. Before starting the art competition, chaired by Prof Abidur Rahman, Vice-president of BAPA-Habiganj Branch, Tofazzal Sohel, Khowai River Waterkeeper read out an article about the river.
The event was also attended by Ferdous Ara Begum, vice-chairman Sadar Upazila, Abdul-Mumin Chowdhury Bulbul, a prominent social worker and Engineer, Dr. SS Al-Amin Sumon, charter president of the Rotary Club of Habiganj Khowai and joint secretary of BAPA, Mahmud Iqbal Sumon, BAPA member, Na
zrul Alam Chowdhury, Moktadir Hossain, Mozammel Haque Babul, Director of Cultural Council of the Fine arts Department, Prasenjit Chowdhury Shibu, Jisu Ray, Ashish Acharya and others.
Tofazzal Sohel said, ‘‘children in towns are growing up without having any relation with the nature and its surroundings. We are encouraging children to participate such events like this one and draw pictures so that they could understand the importance of river in our life. We hope, by drawing these pictures, love and affection for rivers will be made in them, which is the extraordinary creation of nature”.
